So as you can see from the above picture, I took the plunge and decided to dye my hair golden blonde last week! Now it might not appear to be a huge difference, but let me tell you, I was actually super nervous before I went into my appointment. I’ve definitely dyed my hair before and even highlighted it, but I’ve always stuck close to my natural brown color.
I had never tried to bleach so much of my hair at once before, so it was a little scary to think about taking a chance on it. I’ve heard so many horror stories about people ruining their hair trying to go blonde, and even though I felt way more comfortable letting a professional hairstylist take on the challenge, I was still unsure of how things would turn out.
As you might be able to tell, I am not a person who takes chances on anything. I wish I was more spontaneous, but it’s just not in my nature. I would much prefer to have everything planned out. I actually enjoy having a schedule to follow and have always been drawn to planners for that exact reason.
While I had definitely thought about going blonde for a long time before I actually went to the salon, I was still finalizing the exact shade that I wanted right up until I went to the appointment, which is totally unlike me! I am usually a person who will make a decision and stick to it, and finally I just decided to go with the last shade I had looked into.
Pinterest was definitely my best friend through this whole process. I can’t tell you how many celebrity hair photos I looked through, until I finally settled on a golden shade that Blake Lively had. Going from dark to light is no joke, and I went back and forth between so many different shades before I made my decision.
Because my cousin’s wedding was taking place that Friday, I was also running a major risk of arriving to the event with brassy, screwed-up hair. But despite that risk, I just decided to go for it. I am generally not the biggest fan of change, but I thought a little change would do me good and be exciting.
Thankfully, I had nothing to worry about! I was very lucky to have such a talented hairstylist who knew just what shades would compliment my skin tone, and I’m glad that I put my trust in her. Going into it, I thought I would be going for an all-over color, but I’m actually happier that I’ve ended up with multiple tones to my hair, because it looks more natural to me. I was worried that the blonde wouldn’t suit me at all, but luckily everything turned out well.
With this post I definitely wanted to share some photos of my new hair with all of you, but more importantly, I hope my experience will encourage you to take chances of your own. Of course, I’m not expecting everyone to go out and bleach their hair like me, but there are so many exciting things out there that we are too afraid to follow through on.
It is so easy to stay in your comfort zone and remain the same, but you could be missing out on so many amazing opportunities. Like I said before, I am not one to take chances and go for something when I’m scared, but dying my hair blonde has shown me that it’s okay to be more spontaneous. If you have been thinking about taking an art class or going out dancing and you’re too afraid to, just go for it! You may end up hating it, but at least you took a chance. Life is full of great things, you just need to reach for them.
Is there anything that you’ve been thinking about doing that you might be afraid of? I hope that you will take a look at this and decide to take a chance!
