What I’ve Been Loving Lately

I hope everyone is having an amazing Friday! It’s almost the weekend, finally! Today I wanted to share a few of the things that I’ve been loving lately. This list is a mix of food, fitness, and fun. I know I’ve been focusing a lot on weight loss and health on the blog lately, which I love, but I also want to share other things that I’m interested in. Hopefully you can find some new things to try out. Enjoy!

Now I know what you’re thinking. Sara, of course you love reading, you devote a whole post every month to what you’ve been reading. But I’m including reading on my list today not because I love books (which I do,) but because I’ve been really taking time out lately to read every day, and that’s something that I really enjoy.

I’m an avid reader and I always have been, but there are definitely periods of time when I push reading to the side and let something else take up all my time. Honestly, I could spend a good hour just scrolling through Instagram or mindlessly watching Netflix, and oftentimes, that’s what happens.

In an effort to spend less time staring at screens, I decided in the past month to make reading part of my daily routine. I spend at least a half hour reading each day, and I have really been enjoying it. Sure, I love getting updates from social media and binging on the latest hit TV show, but I also think it’s important to spend time doing other things. Whether that’s going out for a hike or chatting with someone you haven’t seen in a while, I encourage you to take time out of the day to do more things that you love. Overall, I think that this has led me to feel happier and calmer, which is great for me.

I mentioned this way back when I first started the blog in March, but something that I really enjoy is makeup. I love trying out new looks and experimenting with different eyeshadows and blushes. I would never consider myself a professional makeup artist in any sense, but I do love keeping up with new products that are coming out, and I’m always looking for the best thing out there.

This summer I’ve fallen into a routine of blushes, highlighters, and eyeshadows that I love using, but one thing that I have been experimenting with is foundation. My skin tends to be on the dry side, which can make shopping for foundation frustrating at times. There are a lot of amazing, popular foundations out there, but they would be completely patchy on my skin type if I tried them out.

That being said, I took a chance and decided to try out this NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. Now this wasn’t just a random discovery. I’ve definitely heard a lot of good things about it online, but I was surprised with how nice it was! I think that tinted moisturizers are so nice, especially during the summer, because I can quickly put it on and then go. At the same time though, it can be hit-or-miss for a lot of these kinds of products.

There is also SPF 30 built right into the product, so I don’t have to worry about potentially burning my face when I want to spend time outside. I am horrible about remembering to put on sunscreen, so at least with this product I know my face is protected.

I was also pleasantly surprised with the coverage of this tinted moisturizer. When I’ve tried tinted moisturizers in the past, it always seemed like my face wasn’t fully covered. I thankfully haven’t been dealing with much acne lately, but I do tend to have redness, so I prefer to use products that can provide coverage. While this product feels light on the skin, I still feel comfortable and feel like my problem areas aren’t on display.

I have also been loving these Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17s. You might remember that I got them for my birthday this year. It took me forever to find a pair of running shoes that works with my flat feet, but I think I have finally found one that works well. I was previously using Brooks Ravennas, and while I think those are great, I think these are even better for my feet.

Normally, especially when I’m breaking in running shoes, I always have to deal with blisters on the back of my heels. Since my feet are narrow and my arches are flat, my feet tend to move around a lot in my shoes when I’m walking, which leads to some pretty painful blisters! I thought it was just something that I would have to deal with, but my new shoes proved me wrong. With these shoes, my feet have felt very secure and barely move around. This gives me so much more motivation to run, because I actually feel comfortable! This is so exciting for me, so that’s why I wanted to include these shoes on my list today. If you are struggling with flat feet and don’t know what shoes to go for, definitely give these a shot!

And finally, I’ll end this post with something that I have been loving to eat lately. Over the past year, I have enjoyed doing a lot of research about what foods are really good for you and what the best options are. Something that I have been really interested in lately is trying out sprouted grains. Sprouted grain is good for you for a number of reasons. According to foodforlife.com, sprouted grain products are higher in protein, contain 18 amino acids, increase digestibility, increase absorption of minerals, increase vitamin C, increase vitamin B, and act as a good source of fiber.

I’ve tried out sprouted grain in the past, but I decided to include much more of it in my diet lately. My favorite go-to is Ezekiel 4:9 from Food for Life Baking Co. I’m not going to lie, it is on the expensive side, but I don’t eat bread every day, so I feel like I can make it last for a good amount of time. I keep it in the fridge or freezer so it stays fresh longer. I started out my adventure into sprouted grains with english muffins, but I have been working on expanding into other products as well. This week I picked up the sprouted whole grain bread.

It is definitely grainy and what I would call natural-tasting, but I think it has a lot of good flavor as well. I have been loving having these sprouted grain products in the mornings with peanut butter, but I’m excited to try out the bread with sandwiches too! Sprouted grain is one of the most nutritious ways that you can consume grains and breads. I love being able to make small little changes in my diet to make it a little healthier, and I have been enjoying adding more sprouted grain lately.
